Senior Fitness
We all know the signs of aging even if we want to pretend they aren’t there. On the outside our hair turns gray and white, our skin begins to wrinkle, our eyesight begins to diminish, and our body begins to slow down. Changes in our levels of hormones, enzymes, cellular function, and other important biochemical functions, lead to a variety of physiological changes as well. These include declines in muscle mass, bone density, flexibility, balance, agility, and reflexes. Many times seniors have extended periods of inactivity and this can lead to functional immobility (i.e. lifting items, climbing stairs, getting up from a chair, etc.) and chronic health problems (i.e. arthritis, diabetes, back pain, slower metabolism rates, increased blood pressure, increased cholesterol, heart disease, etc.)
Until recently, the majority of the population had no idea that we could slow down, and in some cases reverse, some of the physical conditions of aging. Regular exercise each week has been found to be a fountain of youth for aging adults. Clinical studies and research have proven that forms of resistance training (i.e. lifting weights), aerobic activity (i.e. walking), and stretching are able to add muscle, lower fat, increase bone density, and gain flexibility, balance and agility.
Senior Fitness Plan
It’s never too late to start an exercise program. If you are currently physically inactive, exercise less than 2-3 times a week, and in your later years you are a candidate for a senior fitness program. A successful senior fitness program uses short exercises 2 to 3 days a week to keep blood pressure low to moderate and to ensure your safety. We will work with you and tailor a custom fitness program that empowers you and helps you discover the fitness fountain of youth.
