What kind of certification and education do you have?
First and foremost, we each have over 12 practical years of strength, fitness, and aerobic training experience, dating back to our days in school competing on athletic teams. Secondly, each of us has completed undergraduate course work in biology, anatomy and physiology, psychology and others related to the health industry. Shawna has a bachelor's degree in Health Science while Nathaniel has a bachelor's degree in Public Relations. Both Nathaniel and Shawna are professionally certified as Personal Trainers by the American Council on Exercise (ACE). This certification offers courses and testing in subjects including: anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, range of motion, structural integrity, fitness screening and testing, training principles and techniques, understanding equipment, nutrition, sports injury, physician interfacing, sport psychology and motivation, safety and injury prevention. To be certified by these organizations requires rigorous study, participation in courses, hands-on training trials, and passing difficult examinations. Both Nathaniel and Shawna are also trained in CPR and First Aid.
When must I make payment?
Payment options vary from paying one session at a time to purchasing session packages. Session packages must be paid in full prior to first session. Single session purchases must be made prior to or on the day of session.
Do you accept credit cards?
While we prefer cash, check or money orders, we can accept credit cards via PayPal on the Internet. Payments can be sent to nlemmon@cfl.rr.com, using any major credit card.
What if I cancel a session?
Once you have a scheduled session, you must cancel the session more than 24 hours in advance, otherwise you will be charged in full for the session.
What happens if I am late for a session?
We are not obligated to make up a session or time due to a client's tardiness. Being more than 1/2 hour late constitutes a cancellation and we are not obligated to conduct the session. In some cases we will wait and work with you for the remaining time. But this is solely up to our discretion and schedule. In either case you will be fully charged for the session.
How many days a week do I need to workout?
This question can only be answered after you have talked with us. It depends upon your current conditions, goals, schedule, budget and our availability. In our early meetings and beginning sessions we will do some fitness and strength evaluations and work with you to develop a custom program tailored to your individual needs. You may "need" to workout with one of us four days a week, but only have the time or budget for two days a week. In these cases, we will work to teach you a program that you can do on your own for the days that you cannot work with one of us. This, of course, necessitates your willingness and ability to implement such a program.
After I start working with a trainer when will I begin to see results?
This is an impossible question to answer without knowing your present condition and training history. You should always keep in your mind, if it took you 5-10 years to become overweight and out of shape, it’s going to take time to reverse the effects. There are many variables including your specific starting point, genetics, and metabolism as well as your consistency, commitment and time you are willing to put into training. You will get results commensurately with what you put into your training and diet. Generally we suggest that if you are starting from a very low level of fitness, you take it slower at the beginning so you can accustom your body gradually to a training program. We want you to be fit and fabulous for your lifetime.
I can workout on my own, but I need to learn what to do and how exercise correctly. Will a trainer work with me on this basis?
Yes. We will access your needs, evaluate your present conditions, help you establish benchmarks, custom design a program just for you and walk you through the routine. You will come away with a program tailored to your needs and can workout on your own. You can always schedule an additional session or sessions later for a refresher or to upgrade your program. We are always available for occasional follow-up phone or email questions at no additional charge.
Which gym do you work for ?
We don't work for any gym, we are certified independent personal trainers.
I currently belong to a gym. Can you come to my gym to train me?
Yes, if your gym allows private personal trainers. You need to ask your gym if they welcome independent trainers, (who are insured) and if so, how much they charge you for the trainer to come in. Some gyms will charge you for this. The franchise health clubs (i.e. Bally's Total Fitness), however, do not allow private personal trainers.
I want to train in my home but I'm not sure if I have the proper equipment. What are my options?
There are a couple of different options for people with little or no equipment. The first is to purchase your own equipment needed based on our recommendations and advice. Creating a mini-home-gym is easy and can be done on a budget. We have access to many resources that supply fitness equipment and are willing to get the equipment for you, if desired. The second option is to use our equipment that will be brought to you at every session.
